Sunday, February 22nd | 6:00pm | $60

...

Join us for a Sunday supper exploring how Black culinary influence shaped the foundations of American cuisine through a story-driven, multi-course menu. This menu is about recognizing that Black chefs didn’t just cook food—they built American cuisine. James Hemings gave us technique. Edna Lewis gave us dignity. Black cooks gave us flavor, structure, and soul. This supper is our way of saying: we are still building on that foundation.

THANK YOU FOR SMOKING 2026: A DOVETAIL RAUCHBIER FEATURE + SMOKED FOOD SPECIALS

And Don't Miss the BIERSTACHELN Hot Poker Beer Service!
Shelter at The Roost
Saturday, February 21st | 12:00pm - Close

...

On Saturday, February 21st, join Shelter and Dovetail Brewery as we host “Thank You For Smoking,” a celebration of all things smoked. We’ll feature 3 Dovetail smoked beers on draft, smoked food specials from Hi/Fi BBQ, and offer the option to have your beer caramelized with our own bierstacheln, a.k.a., “beer poker”.

Our friends at Dovetail in Chicago, Illinois, have been brewing their Rauchbier since they opened in 2016! To emphasize this focus, they’ve held a taproom “festival” every year called “Thank You For Smoking”, where they pour a number of their smoked beers. This year, they decided to take the “festival” nationwide and send a limited number of Rauchbier kegs to bars around the country. We’re honored to be one of these select locations!

If you haven’t tried it, you don’t miss this special opportunity to have your beer toasted with a bierstacheln, or “beer poker”. This German tradition of inserting a hot metal rod into beer caramelizes the malt sugars, adding flavor, and warms up your beverage in the winter months.
There is no admission fee for this event. All featured beers will be available a la carte.

THE FEATURED SMOKED BEER LIST
Dovetail Rauchbier (Rauchbier)
Dovetail Smoked Vienna (Smoked Vienna Lager)
Dovetail Lichtenhainer (Lichtenhainer)

THE FEATURED FOOD MENU
Smoked BBQ Glazed Spare Ribs (Sorghum BBQ Sauce, Smoked Crema, Picked Jalapeños, Cilantro, Scallions)
Pulled Pork Sandwich (Pulled pork, Curtido, Mustard BBQ, Beef Fat Fries)
Pulled Chicken Sandwich (Smoked Chicken, Pickles, Cabbage Curtido, Chili Citrus Aioli, Beef Fat Fries)

HIGH ON THE HOG AT THE ROOST

Saturday, February 28th | 12:00pm - Sell Out

...

“High on the Hog” comes from a powerful history: the term once described the best cuts reserved for those in power, while enslaved Africans were left with the rest. Through creativity, skill, and resilience, Black cooks transformed those humble ingredients into the soul food and Southern dishes we celebrate today. This event honors that legacy—turning survival into artistry and resilience into unforgettable flavor.

Join us for a High on the Hog platter, where you can choose one or more meats and build your plate with sides of your choice.

Platter includes choice of two sides, Crispy Pig Ears, Cornbread with Whipped Honey Butter, and your choice meat(s).

🐖 Meat Options

Pulled Pork - $20
Both - $28

🍽️ Sides
